OUR SERVICES
We provide counselling support for all mothers that are experiencing mild to moderate antenatal or postnatal depression or anxiety. This includes both one-to-one counselling support, and a "Good Grief I'm a Mum" Group for women, along with advice, information and advocacy.
Support for women
We have a variety of support available;
Kia Ora, Perinatal Support Nelson is a free service that can provide you with up to 10 counselling sessions (although this can be extended if needed)if you are within our triage criteria. Our volunteer counsellors can work with you in your home, online, or work with you on the phone. This is a time for you to be able to share your antenatal or postnatal journey, and talk about your difficulties within a safe and confidential space. Our volunteer kaimahi are either trained or are studying their bachelor's degree in counselling at Te Pūkenga (NMIT).
We also provide referrals to low-cost counselling. These are fully trained, experienced and qualified Counsellors who specialise in this field. Contact us to find out more about the support we provide. We have connections with other agencies and organisations within the Nelson/Tasman region that welcome our referrals, when extra support for Whānau is needed. Psychoeducational Therapeutic Group
"Good Grief I’m a Mum’ is a free, confidential, psychoeducational therapeutic group facilitated by Rachael, a counsellor. The 5 weeks of group work will provide you with an opportunity to explore some of the myths of motherhood, culture, relationships, grief, attachment styles, the brain, trauma, the nervous system – polyvagal theory, co-regulation and what collective and individual nurturing could look like for you. There is a space for you to be a witness and participant in your healing journey by using small figures, with elements of psychodrama. This is an opportunity to externalise internal feelings and an opportunity to access the deeper layers of yourself. There will also be information on Postnatal Depression and Anxiety. This group is an invitation to you, and an opportunity to develop more skills, connect with other women and an opportunity to create and recreate your journey through motherhood.
Groups are run throughout the year in Stoke, Wakefield and Motueka. The next group will be in Stoke/Richmond in September 2024. Please contact Rachael on 027 626 6778 or contact us for more information.
