Who We Are
Perinatal Support Nelson
Perinatal Support Nelson was formed in 1989 by a group of women who had experienced Postnatal Depression and recognised the lack of support available for them in the region. Since then Perinatal Support Nelson has grown to become a service that provides information and offers support through a team of trained and experienced support workers and counselors.
Our team currently consists of a board of five volunteers, two paid part time office staff members, ten qualified and in training counsellors and a small team of volunteer support workers.
What We Do
Counselling and Information
Perinatal Support Nelson provides counselling and information for mothers experiencing mild to moderate perinatal anxiety and/or depression. Support is available through in‑home visits with a volunteer counsellor or at our counselling space. We offer one‑to‑one counselling and the opportunity to join a therapeutic group in the region. When needed, we can connect parents and whānau/family with other agencies, ensuring they receive the right support and information about perinatal depression and anxiety.
We welcome people from all ethnicities and cultures. Based in Nelson, Perinatal Support Nelson serves the wider Nelson/Tasman region, from Nelson city through to Wakefield and up to the Appley Bridge as well as offering support online. Get in touch to learn more about how we can support you and your whānau/family.
Our work is made possible through grants, fundraising, and sponsorship, and we warmly welcome donations to help us continue supporting families in our community.
